Western series were a lot of fun for Lee Majors because he felt ''more comfortable in jeans''
Posted: February 27, 2025, 11:00AMWhen you're an actor, sometimes you have to take a role simply because you need the money. You can only become picky when you reach Hollywood royalty level, and even then, you have to be careful not to accept something that'll tarnish your image and decades-long hard work.
Lee Majors reached a point in his career where he could choose roles based on his personal interest, and his love for Westerns was unmistakable. The media asked him about his preference, and his answer was simple.
"It seems like every time I'm interviewed, the first question I'm asked is why am I doing another Western," Majors said to the Copley News Service in 1970. "Well, I could say 'money' as the funny line, but actually, [it appeals] to me, the way I look at it, if I'm to play a year or probably several years in a series, I want to enjoy it." He further explained that the rugged, outdoor settings of Westerns resonated with his love for nature and adventure, making the roles more enjoyable for him.
He added, "You know, these Western series are a lot of fun for a guy like me. I love going out on location. To me, it's exciting. In a contemporary series, say a doctor's show, I'd feel constrained in a regular setting week after week. As an actor, I'd find it boring. Besides that, I feel way more comfortable in jeans anyway. I rarely go out in a suit."
Major's favorite activities were hunting and fishing, and he loved taking care of his three horses. So, other than dressing for red carpets, suits were not his regular style.
