It's an exciting year for Star Trek. Between the 50th anniversary back in September and the excitment of Star Trek: Discovery coming next year, there is no shortage of Star Trek news. The latest Discovery update is that Sonequa Martin-Green just booked the lead role in the newest Star Trek series.
Martin-Green is currently a regular on AMC's The Walking Dead. She'll be trading a post-zombie apocalypse for the final frontier. She will portray a lieutenant commander on Discovery — and will continue to play Sasha on The Walking Dead. (Though, this doesn't bode well for her survival.)
Discovery takes place before The Original Series, aboard the USS Discovery and other craft, focusing on finding new worlds and new civilizations. Other cast members include Doug Jones, Michelle Yeoh, Anthony Rapp, Chris Obi, Mary Chieffo and Shazad Latif. Currently, the series is schedule to air in May 2017, a delay from the original January launch. You can find more details about Star Trek: Discovery at The Hollywood Reporter.
