Some people love crossovers in the comic universe, while others hate 'em. There’s an upcoming crossover, though, that we are stoked about. According to SyFy Wire, the latest Archie iteration will be Archie Meets Batman ’66.
That’s right, Adam West’s Batman will be making an appearance in Riverdale, as will Burt Ward’s Robin. It’ll be written by Jeff Parker and Michael Moreci and colored by Kelly Fitzpatrick. Readers will have the option to choose from (or collect) various variant covers of Archie Meets Batman ’66 #1, drawn by Mike Allred, Derek Charm, Francesco Francavilla, Sandy Jarrell, Ty Templeton and Dan Parent. Parent will be the illustrator of the full issue with inks by J. Bone, which hits stands July 18.
"On the art side, there's no one else we'd rather see drawing this than Dan Parent — who's a superstar artist and an Archie legend,” Archie Comics co-president Alex Segura told SyFy. "Watching his work with finisher J. Bone come in has been a highlight for everyone. This is going to be a memorable book."
As you know, this isn’t the first Archie crossover issue. In addition to fighting Sharknado, everyone’s favorite redhead has teamed up with a number of superheroes like the Ninja Turtles and the Punisher. DC and Archie Comes have recently had Betty and Veronica/Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy crossover.
"Look, we all want to know what Jughead and The Joker make of each other, and we want to see the romance dynamics of Riverdale High thrown completely out of gear by bringing in Dick Grayson and Barbara Gordon," said Parker. "It’s very cool to work with a heavy hitting team of top talent. Michael and I synched up immediately with plotting, and Dan and J. Bone are the exact right cartoonists to make a mash-up like this really work. We are all wearing matching 'R' letterman jackets while working on this, by the way."
