Haunted by memories of the Civil War, 'The Rebel' chronicles the adventures of loner Johnny Yuma (Nick Adams) as he roams the American West in search of inner peace. Keeping a journal of his adventures all the while, Yuma drifts through the dusty landscape combating injustice wherever he finds it, armed with a sawed-off shotgun to keep the bad guys at bay.

Johnny returns home after the war to find his father is dead and the town has been taken over by outlaws.

S1/EP 2 - Judgement

Will Randall is fleeing from a posse and attempts to steal Johnny's horse. Johnny catches him and turns him over to the posse. Later, Randall's daughter tells him that her father has been framed.

S1/EP 3 - Yellow Hair

Johnny finds a strange man at an abandoned Army post. He tells Johnny he acts crazy to keep the indians from killing him. Suddenly the indians reappear.

S1/EP 4 - Vicious Circle

Johnny is beaten up by two ex-Union soldiers. They want to know where a gold cache worth $2 million dollars is, but Johnny doesn't know anything about it.

S1/EP 5 - Panic

Johnny comes across a family of squatters in desperate need of help. The nearby townspeople think that the squatters have diphtheria.

Johnny comes across the camp of a group of scavengers on a cold winter night. They have been besieging the home of a family with the intent of taking over their home for the winter.

Johnny is talked into taking a temporary job as a schoolmaster. One of his students gives him a hard time because his sweetheart has a crush on Johnny.

Johnny is ambushed by three young boys. The boys proceed to tell him about their plans to rob the bank.

S1/EP 10 - In Memoriam

Johnny Yuma fulfills a promise made to a dying Union soldier. He rides into Lassiter City to return a keepsake medal to the boy's family. The mother proudly receives the medal and then asks Yuma to stay as a cowhand.

A corrupt sheriff arrests Johnny on a charge of vagrancy, and he ends up with a gang of slave laborers.

S1/EP 12 - Gun City

The editor of the newspaper in a frontier town tells Johnny that a new approach to law and order is being tried there. They are going to attempt to keep everyone in the town unarmed.

Johnny Yuma comes to town for supplies only to discover that he is the victim of a conspiracy—no one will sell to him. He will starve unless he can break the boycott.

Yuma attempts to take a man accused of killing an Apache woman over gold to the nearest fort for trial, but he must pit his story against that of the man to Apache Chief Running Wolf, who was the father of the murdered woman, to whom the accused was husband.

Yuma, seeing Glory's banishment for murder, offers to help her to the next town for trial but, while supplying in Glory's town, he runs afoul of Emma, who has falsely accused Glory to keep her control of brother Don against Glory's love.

S1/EP 17 - The Unwanted

Yuma rescues old Sam Amister from thieves and takes him to his hometown, where Yuma learns Amister is hated for grave robbery. Yuma expects there is more to his grave digging than stealing.

Yuma visits former commanding officer Quincy Bannister who is irrationally and overtly pursuing the prosecution of alleged murderer Newt Schofield.

S1/EP 20 - Land

Yuma delivers Gottwald a document, proving that he is in the right in a land dispute with Hauser. Gottwald has a bad heart and lacks money for appeal, so he agrees to a Hauser deal.

S1/EP 21 - He's Only a Boy

Yuma in town to deliver a letter to Lick Stribling is targeted by young Virgil Moss, who has become a vicious aspiring gunfighter in an effort to defend his family name against the charge of cowardice.

S1/EP 22 - Take Dead Aim

Yuma is befriended by a married couple who perform a shooting act. When the alienated wife forces her affections upon Johnny to persuade him to run away with her, the obsessive husband vows to kill him.

S1/EP 23 - The Rattler

Snake-bit Yuma collapses at the home of a marshal targeted by hired killers. He is taken in by the wife, who is in the company of Roader, a hired killer feigning friendship, who kills the marshal on his return home and frames Johnny.

S1/EP 24 - You Steal My Eyes

Yuma finds a trapper caught in a bear trap and takes him to cabin where he discovers the man's blind daughter, who mistakes him for an enemy until the actual brigands come to steal pelts meant to pay for the woman's eye operation.

S1/EP 25 - Fair Game

Yuma meets Pace at a stage depot. They are soon joined by other passengers waiting overnight for a stage connection. Among the passengers are bounty hunter Farnum with his prisoner, Cynthia Kenyon, who is wanted for murder. When Farnum is poisoned, the others want to release Kenyon to prevent harm to themselves.

Juanita, the widow of a confederate general, asks Yuma to go to Mexico to bring back a sword that belonged to her husband.

Yuma interferes at a stagecoach station when prejudice toward a Chinese father and daughter becomes physical and assists again as four thieves of mixed breeding attempt to steal on the road a dowry for the daughter's arranged marriage.

S1/EP 29 - Absolution

When a sweetheart of Johnny's youth is dying, her husband, a former Union officer for whom she betrayed Yuma, seeks out Yuma so Johnny can say that he forgives the woman and assuage her guilt.

S1/EP 30 - A Grave for Johnny Yuma

When Yuma comes to meet an unknown woman who has written him, he discovers her brother—embittered by her death, digging a grave for Johnny Yuma, whom he blames for her death. Johnny joins the man incognito to find the impostor.

S1/EP 31 - In Memory of a Son

Charlie Burton summons Yuma and three other members of a rebel raiding party and informs them that he is giving them a gold mine in the Mojave Desert in memory of his deceased son—but mistrust and murder ensue.

S1/EP 32 - Paint a House with Scarlet

Johnny stops by a farmhouse owned by a young widow. He learns she is being persecuted by a self-righteous neighbor who has learned she used to be dance hall girl.

Johnny signs on as a hand for Congressional Medal of Honor winner and former Union soldier Paul Travis, who has settled for health reasons among Confederate sympathizers who mean him harm.

General Grant pays a post-war visit to the south, and Johnny tells youngster Jimmy the story of Lee's surrender.

Desperate miner Jeremy Hake commits murder in a robbery attempt that he hoped would help his family. Hake asks Yuma to surrender him for the reward offered for the murder.

Yuma buys the contract of a war buddy who is now a washed-up boxer and attempts to discourage him from further competition.

Yuma stops at a bar where a bounty hunter is holding the wife of a criminal as bait. The bounty hunter detains Yuma, whose resemblance to the criminal motivates the bounty hunter to develop an alternative plan.

Rancher Bull Hollingsworth hires Yuma to make a man out of his sheltered son, Seldon.

The Ricker family frames Yuma for a murder that one of the Ricker's has committed and then arranges for him to flee town before he is hanged. But will Yuma chose the easy way out?

Yuma arrives at a scene where Demetria's family escort has been wiped out. She is en route to an arranged marriage and laments this lack of protection; however, her expressed feelings for Yuma contradict her despair.

After his horse is killed by Apaches, Yuma is found by a stagecoach driver. On the stage is Travers, who is blind and tormented by a previous stagecoach encounter with Apaches in which his wife was killed when they were left by a driver.

Yuma stops to visit Dunsen, who arrives in town and commences to randomly shoot townspeople. The townspeople believe Dunsen's war service has driven him mad and want to kill him, but deputy Maggio permits Yuma to talk Dunsen to sanity.

The Stellings have been left behind by townspeople fleeing hostile indians. A group of Mexican insurgents, led by the demagogic Commandante and bent on enforcing Spanish land grants, arrives in town to take advantage of the situation.

A sadistic former Union prison guard who tortured Yuma wants revenge for the punishment he suffered when Yuma escaped from the POW camp.

S2/EP 18 - The Promise

When Yuma arrives to give Laura Buford the affects of her father, he learns that she is being forced to marry into a family that exerts their will by brutality and fear.

S2/EP 19 - Jerkwater

George Campbell believes Yuma killed his brother in the war, so his son provokes a gun battle with Yuma, in which Yuma kills the son but is wounded. Godfather John Sims then comes to help Yuma escape from the town's vengeance.

A newswoman observes Yuma defending a boy against an adult bully, prompting her to write a story portraying him as the typical Western hero, much to his displeasure and detriment to his safety.

S2/EP 21 - The Actress

Yuma is chosen by an esteemed but unethical itinerant actress to take part in her performance. While Yuma and she dispute wages, they are kidnapped by a man who demands that the actress perform for his traumatized daughter.

Yuma arrives in a town with a woman to help her search for her husband, who has written a letter to her saying that he has discovered a mine. However, the townspeople are most resistant to help in the search.

S2/EP 27 - Shriek of Silence

Yuma is forced to kill outlaw Fallow in a gunfight. He then learns Fallow has a deaf, mute son. Yuma proceeds to help the boy find a home, but two of Fallow's associates are on the trail: They want the boy to help them recover loot that Fallow had hidden.

S2/EP 28 - Two Weeks

An embittered Confederate prison camp survivor talks cash-short Yuma into a card bet of two weeks servitude on the man's property. When Yuma loses the bet, he learns that service must be under the prison camp conditions the man suffered.

S2/EP 29 - Miz Purdy

After convincing a woman alone at her homestead he is not an outlaw, Yuma joins forces with her to fend off marauders who have robbed a bank and killed a neighboring family.

S2/EP 30 - The Ballad of Danny Brown

Emily, who awaits the return of her beau from prison, befriends Johnny but Emily's brother, Vergil, is bent on revenge against the beau.

S2/EP 31 - The Proxy

Yuma joins in an uneasy alliance with two men in their mission to extradite a fugitive bank president, for whom the men hold an unrelated animosity.

S2/EP 32 - Decision at Sweetwater

Yuma goes after a band of murderous stage robbers who are trying to steal a mine's payroll.

S2/EP 33 - Helping Hand

Seeking water, Yuma is forced to side with two brothers who are in a stand off with a better fortified and supplied uncle and cousin, a pair which have betrayed the two brothers' father and brother after a bank robbery.

When the posse chasing Ben White and his gang capture White's wife, Yuma is given the task of taking the wife to a town jail while the posse follows a false lead. Meanwhile, the treachery of White's wife places Yuma in a precarious situation.

While traveling with a posse in search of an outlaw, Yuma encounters the outlaw's wife, who is having a baby. He stays with her and the baby while the outlaw is trapped between the posse and two bounty hunters.

S2/EP 39 - The Hostage

A Shoshone chief keeps three prisoners in exchange for three braves who have been killed. Since the braves have killed a white woman, the chief agrees that just two hostages will be executed, and Yuma must decide who.
